“But don’t forget the songs that made you cry,
and the songs that saved your life.
Yes, you’re older now, and you’re a clever swine,
but they were the only ones who ever stood by you.”
—“Rubber Ring,” The Smiths
Music has always been our therapy. One lyric by our favorite band has the power to cut through the mask we put on for the world and reveal who we are underneath the facade. We’re weird and wonderful, and this newsletter is a celebration of the songs that help us embrace ourselves. The intention is to build an inclusive community of music lovers who want to discuss the music that teaches us to accept ourselves.
You don’t have to be LGBTQ+ to enjoy this newsletter. But we are going to dive into how queer the true history of Rock & Roll is and reclaim those stories. Here’s a short list of just some of the artists we’ll talk about each week:
Every week, we’ll feature one song that “saved our lives” with some backstory and a dab of rock history. We’ll also include a fun little trivia game, plus a merch section (because you’re gonna want to buy that song!) We’re also including a subscriber-written section in every newsletter that answers the question, “What is the song or music video that blossomed your sexual awakening?” Readers will submit short stories about the songs that first gave them the tingles “down there.”
It’s going to be a romp. And I hope you enjoy the ride! So subscribe now.
